You get so much out of learning Japanese. And although they have one of the biggest economies in the world, and over 120 million people, very few speak much English. The English they learn in school is geared towards reading, not to speaking. So, if you want to have business relations with Japan, you will need to learn some Japanese. The time is now to learn Japanese. The benefits to learning Japanese are many fold. Certainly it will help you gain a foothold in their powerful economy. A place to start, then would be to find a school in your area that offers lessons. Or buy a Japanese language course from a bookstore or online. One decision you’ll need to make is: Do you want to just speak Japanese, or do you want to learn to read Japanese, too. Still trying to decide if you want to learn Japanese? Some Advantages to Learning Japanese: – There are great career opportunities for those who learn Japanese. Being fluent in both English and Japanese will present you with many new, exciting career opportunities! You might find work in one of the huge Japanese corporations like Sony or Honda. Or you could work for one of the thousands of companies in the U.S. or Europe which need translators to conduct their business in Japan. Are there really that many jobs to be had? Yes! From the humble jobs of tour guide or language teacher, to the powerhouse careers of international finance management and multi-national litigation, there is a job for everyone who can speak both English and Japanese. It bears repeating that Japan is a huge player on the international market. There is equally huge money to be made there, so learning Japanese will absolutely pay off financially. – The Japanese language is actually easier to learn than many other languages! Certainly their four alphabets present a challenge, especially their system of kanji, which is the Chinese character set. But as far as speaking the language, it is not nearly as difficult as, say, Russian or Polish. The sounds are much easier for Westerners. And the grammar is no more challenging than English grammar. (And there are no cases, as in Slavic languages!) Once you get used to the pronunciation rules, and get a feel for how sentences are constructed, you can go very far in Japanese in a short time. – Learn Japanese to meet Japanese people. Ultimately, going beyond a lucrative career, learning Japanese is about making connections with the Japanese people. And as an English speaking student of their language, they will be fascinated by you and your achievements in their language. You will new friends, and develop lasting relationships.
